Outside The Box Group, Inc is a research, design, and manufacturing firm based in Pineville, N.C. Outside The Box, Inc., has designed, developed, and marketed their own line of noise-canceling headphones including the very successful and popular Solitude™ noise-canceling headphone, The Plane Quiet™ noise canceling headphone, and their latest product, the Solitude™ Acoustic Isolation System (AIS™) in ear unit. With more than 100 years combined experience in the airline and travel industry, the Outside The Box, Inc. team is dedicated to developing innovative products for the frequent and professional traveler along with specialty noise canceling products for retail, commercial and industrial use.
David and Renee Dillinger, husband and wife, got their start over four years ago designing disposable blankets to sell to airlines. This venture led to David and Renee developing a new idea, noise canceling headphones, which was also based off the couple‘s careers in the airline industry. David being a pilot, Renee a flight attendant.
At the time, there was primarily one noise-canceling headphone on the market, priced at $300 a set. Mr. Dillinger, who has a B.S. in electrical engineering and a B.S. in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh, designed a better and less expensive version. He found international manufacturers in Asia willing to produce the units using his design and patented proprietary algorithms.
Today Outside-The-Box, Inc sells several different types of noise canceling products of its own design and is currently on version 6 of the original PlaneQuiet™ model. Outside The Box, Inc. also does OEM work for a number of companies, having introduced noise-canceling technology to a number of different applications.
In April of 2005, Outside The Box, Inc was selected by John Deere, Inc. to provide noise-canceling headphones to the John Deere market. These headphones have the John Deere brand on them and are targeted to the John Deere equipment user. This continues be a large testament to Outside The Box, Inc.‘s dedication to design quality and customer satisfaction.
Outside-The-Box, Inc is headquartered in Pineville, N.C. and has their office and warehouse facilities located there. Outside-The-Box, Inc qualifies as minority owned (woman) business. The current staff includes a full time design and engineering team, business development, sales and marketing team, and full warehouse staff. Outside-The-Box, Inc will continue to expand the noise-canceling market, finding new and innovative applications for their patented noise canceling technology.
